Our School Year
At Huron Park Montessori School & Child Care Centre, we follow the Peel District School Board Calendar (September 08, 2020 – June 25, 2021) . We are closed all Statutory Holidays, Winter Break (December 21, 2020 - January 01, 2021) and March Break (rescheduled to April 12-16, 2021).
Before & After School Care (Hours subject to change due to updated Health & Safety protocols)
During the school year, we offer before and after school child care from 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM to 5:45 PM. We can escort your child to & from our neighbouring schools (St. Jerome Separate School & Hawthorn Public School)
Educational Support Services
We provide individualized programming for children with communicative, social, emotional, sensorial, developmental and physical delays.
Our interdisciplinary team consists of Registered Early Childhood Educators and Resource Teachers. When the need arises, we will engage specialists such as a Speech-Language Therapist, Social Worker, Physiotherapist, or an Occupational Therapist.
About our Programs
We provide exceptional care for children 18 month to 6 years. We offer a blended program based on the principles of Dr. Maria Montessori and “How Does Learning Happen?”, Ontario’s pedagogy for the Early Years learning. Our classroom is enriched with a wide range Montessori and play-based materials.
Maria Montessori believed that “children’s minds are absorbent” and these critical times, the early years, are when the child fully benefits by learning specific skills and concepts. They will thrive in an environment that is carefully planned and that allows the independence to choose their own materials and areas of learning.
Toddler Curriculum:
Age: 1.5 to 2.5
Ratio: 1:8
The program provides a caring and stimulating environment that meets each child’s developmental need. The goal of this program is to introduce social interaction while learning to show and express emotions. The children are introduced to basic rules and routines. The child will learn to develop a sense of self; develop their oral language skills; learn basic cognitive concepts and sensory motor skills.
Teachers will observe and follow the child’s emotional and social cues in order to provide guidance and to develop their physical and intellectual abilities. Children will enhance their verbal communication through stories and during play.
Preschool Curriculum:
Age: 2.6 to 3.6
Ratio: 1:8
Children in this age category are actively enhancing their social skills of waiting a turn, asking to use an item, learning how to ask to join a group setting. They are fully engaged with their emotions and can identify how they are feeling. They express themselves freely and learn how to let someone else have a turn to speak.
In addition to social and emotional skill building, children are learning to recognize letters, numbers, and names. They enhance their letter identification with learning the phonetic sounds which will lead to the connection of the letters in order to read a 3-letter word, for example.
This program also focuses on school readiness and self-help skills as getting dressed for outdoor play and serving themselves at meals. The children also learn to follow bathroom routines with minimal assistance.
Before & After Care Programme
Age: 4 to 6
Ratio: 1:10
Our Before and After care program is available to families as full or half sessions. We are happy to escort your child to and from our neighbouring schools, St. Jerome Catholic School and Hawthorn Public School.
The morning environment will allow the children to prepare for the school day ahead. When they return in the afternoon, they can unwind after their school day, work on homework with our without the help of our teachers and enjoy free time.
